As a Teacher
I’ve been Teaching and Coaching Guitar for a number of years now and still love it as much as I did when I started! Many of my Students go from complete beginners to being at a very good standard of proficiency on the Instrument.
Students get a lot out of the lessons, and many end up forming bands, taking grades, performing, going to jam sessions or even playing semi-professionally on the gig-circuit!
I focus on teaching all the important elements of Guitar Playing so that students become well-rounded players with secure musical knowledge.
I teach all ages and have students as young as 6 strumming away right up to older clients who just enjoy it as a new hobby! You're never too old to start learning Guitar!
I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some great Teachers who have been both inspirational and influential in my development. I’ve also had some Teachers who aren’t quite so good so I know from experience what works and what doesn’t!
Whatever you want to achieve on the Guitar I will tailor the lessons to your goals and aims. I use different lesson formats in Teaching to really get the maximum benefit and the most fun for all the students…. after all learning Guitar is supposed to be fun and never a chore!

Testimonials
Carl Thompson - Electric Guitar
'David offers First Class Tuition in a warm, well kitted friendly atmosphere. I had been playing Guitar for around four years before I met David and over those years had several teachers. Although when I went to David I had learnt the basics well, I still felt that my playing was wooden and the lack of Theory was stopping me progressing to the Player I aspired to be.
Most teachers rely on hand outs and teach you the songs they want you to learn, when it comes to parts that are to difficult for your level they choose to ignore it and carry on to the next. With Did that is not the case.
In the last 12 months my playing has taken a massive leap in that we work on all elements of Guitar playing, from all styles of Music, Songs and Techniques to the Musical Theory and Ear Training that has helped my playing go to the next level. David is the best teacher I have had; I can say that from experience.
Thank you Did and Keep up the good work!'
Jonathan George - Electric Guitar, Acoustic, Keyboards
'My name is Jonathan George. I played Rhythm Guitar and Organ in a "Soul" band in the sixties with my school friends but had stopped playing for 4 decades. I was lucky enough to find David (Did) Coles a few years ago as I wished to start playing Guitar again. After a few months I was progressing onto more complex Chord shapes and understanding the Music Theory which had been lacking from my original playing. He then moved me on to Lead Playing and the experience has not only been very enjoyable but very successful'
Co-incidentally the leader of our band in the sixties has contacted the original members and we have reformed with a view to playing a few gigs and a reunion concert at our old school. Did has also helped rekindle my playing skills on the Organ and has helped me put together some of the parts used in the Soul songs from the sixties. Did has been Instrumental in my music revival.
Renville Facey - Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar
'I have been having Lessons with David for Five months now. He has really helped me develop as a Player because he knows how to break things down, then it all makes sense! If there is something I don't understand or was undure about from the Lesson, he is always there to help you over the Phone.
I really enjoy my Lessons because I am now playing Songs that I have always wanted to play! 'Did' encourages you and gives you great tips on how to overcome areas in your playing that you find difficult. He shows you how to practice properly so you can reap the benefits from practicing and so you don't get into bad habits!
One of the great things about David he will go over things with you to make sure you are taking in what you have been taught. Not many Teachers are like him, that's what sets him apart from the rest. I can't wait for our next Lesson!'
Josh Lowe - Electric Guitar
'Did is a relaxed and friendly teacher and I always look forward to my next lesson with him! He teaches you what you want to know and was a great help when I came to do my Grade 1 exam. I recommend him to everybody and hope that he will help you as much as he's helped me!' :)
Dylan (aged 6) and Paul Jones
'My son had been nagging for a guitar for over a year, so we decided to buy him one for Christmas just after he turned 6. Luckily Did had put a flier in for his services through our letterbox about the same time & seemed ideal.
The early lessons quickly gave Dylan confidence and familiarity in playing the guitar. He quickly learnt the parts and strings, and went on to learn many chords and melodies. As Dylan is so young keeping his interest in learning the guitar is essential and Did has managed this with a flexible and varied approach to lessons. Dylan has learnt many riffs and played along with various well known rock songs, but has also studied the basics such as scales and how they are used. I would happily recommend Did to anyone wanting to learn guitar'
